While we’ve had no runners through the week, we’re hoping that we’ve got a Saturday to look forward to with the two we are sending to Ascot. Both have the potential to do well and should improve further from this weekend.
Saturday
Revels Hill is making his seasonal reappearance in the Swinley Handicap Chase (15:00), having had a little setback in the autumn. He’s got a Grand National entry, but this is very much a starting point for him, and he’ll need to go up in the weights in order to have any chance of getting into the National. More importantly, though, Saturday’s run is about getting his season underway. He was placed in this race last year, and there’ll be improvement to come from him, so hopefully he can put in a good performance from which we can build.
Then we’ve got Anno Power in the mares’ bumper (16:45). She was the runner-up on her debut at Exeter to a horse who has since won again, franking the form nicely. She over-raced a bit that day, so we’re hoping that she will settle better and, if she can build on that performance, when she was running against geldings, you’d like to think that she’ll take a bit of beating.
Update on Boothill and Altobelli
We knew that the ground was going to be less than ideal for Boothill last Saturday at Newbury; we just wanted a nice clear round from him, and it was unfortunate that he made a mistake and fell. He’s luckily none the worse and we’ll try again another day. We will have to do some thinking, though, to decide whether or not he will still go to Cheltenham next month.
We’re still scratching our heads about Altobelli’s below-par run in the Betfair Hurdle. Nothing has come to light physically, and he seems in good order at home. It clearly wasn’t his true running, so it’s all a bit frustrating, and you’d almost prefer something explanatory to come up! He’ll be back another time.
