Andrea Atzeni: Haydock Saturday Preview

Fantastic Fox – 14:25 Haydock

I start with one for Roger (Varian), but it’s a competitive handicap and I think he’s up against it. He is down to a mark of 89, having once been rated 100 so he’s come down a long way, but he does look up against some improving horses who look very nice, especially Karl Burke’s Poet Master who has been impressive on both starts. There is George Scott’s Isle Of Jura who has won his last 2 races also. We have added the blinkers, but it still looks a tough spot.

Savvy Victory – 15:00 Haydock

He won well at Sandown last time and on ratings he hasn’t got much to find. Obviously, Al Aasy looks the one to beat, he was impressive at Newbury last time, but he has got his quirks, on a going day he’s very good. If everything falls right for my lad, and hopefully they go a decent gallop, because he needs to be dropped in, then I’m very hopeful it will drop right, especially now his confidence is high.

Leap Year Lad – 15:35 Haydock

He’s a course and distance winner but this is a tight handicap despite there being only the five runners. There may be some rain coming in tomorrow and that will be fine for him because he pretty much goes on all types of ground. However, there is probably nothing in the race that has enormous potential.

Stenton Glider – 16:10 Haydock

I just can’t get a decent draw with this filly, I went to Germany, and she gets a bad draw, I was drawn wide at Sandown, and now I’m drawn in the car park! She deserves to win a Listed race because she has been knocking on the door. If I had been drawn lower at Sandown I think she would have won, she broke well and got to the front but was a bit free and with that very stiff finish we just got run out of it. From the draw on Saturday, she will need to settle. She’s not slow and Haydock can be a speed track sometimes which should suit her, over a mile you really need a 7f horse who has a bit of pace, I just don’t want to be caught wide. She should have a very good chance in this.

Get Stuck In – 16:45 Haydock

He won his first start in a handicap on the All-Weather a while back, but the handicapper has only put him up 3lbs, so he should still be competitive back on grass after a break, he’s won fresh before. He’s a good moving horse so as long as the ground is decent we will probably go forward, and the flat track will suit him.

Have a great weekend,

Andrea
